  28. I found Acornet 0.20 already contained a NewsDir.  During the startup
  29. process, Newsbase tries to find if one already exists, and prompts the
  30. user to create this and attempts to configure itself automatically if it
  31. was not just a mistake of forgetting to have it seen by the filer first.

  33. The feature I had discovered in Newsbase 0.59d is that it created a
  34. slightly different format !Newsdir.newsbase.startup.c00saved.users
  35. file (with details of the time and date of last login for each user).

  37. So if any user already has an existing NewsDir, one of the objectives
  38. I imagine they would have when upgrading software would be to keep
  39. their e-mail in their existing NewsDir, from either a stand-alone
  40. Newsbase installation, or a previous suite of the Acornet system.

  54. As I see it (using !Spark) compressed, it is three times larger
  55. than the next largest transports (freenews and ka9q) and like the
  56. Termite transport, something not really relevant to !Acornet users.

  58. The directory for the !Newsbase.!AutoBoot program is missing, but
  59. that should be the least of your worries because I had rewritten
  60. this program (originally by Adam Goodfellow, IIRC) so it did not
  61. generate an error like it used to in the Newsbase 0.58 release.
